An index to artists in Canada with files in the National Gallery, and also includes file listings from nineteen other arts libraries across Canada, including three from British Columbia. Essentially, the publication is a finding aid to information on Canadian artists, with very brief biographical information provided beyond names, birth and death dates if known, abbreviations for which artistic medium the artists worked with, and a reference to which province in Canada the artist was most affiliated with. The remainder of the information is a list of which libraries have a file on each artist.

Sim Publishing acquired an original copy of this publication in December 2017. Although the information was thus by definition 35 years out of date, a review of the index indicated that a number of artists listed would be "new" to the BC Artists project, and additional information could be gleaned for names and vital statistics. After much work, 2,273 artists were listed as "BC" artists, of which 527 were "new" artists. The remainder were already listed in BC Artists, of whom 382 had BC Artist biography files. 202 vital statistic updates were also noted.
