According to Thoedore Pappas III, Vancouver auctioneer, Straker was a mink rancher, and a friend of the Pappas family, the owners of Pappas Furs. Straker was also a painter, mostly doing oil paintings of wildlife. The Pappas family owns an oil painting by Straker of a mink family crossing a log fallen over a stream.
Straker was living in Vancouver in 1965, according to information from the National Gallery of Canada artists index. He died in New Westminster in 1972 at the age of 69, according to B.C. Vital Statistics on-line, which also gives his first name as Alexzander.
