George Hymers was born in Durham, England. He arrived in Canada c 1909, and moved to Vancouver c1914. He exhibited his work in the 1944 British Columbia At Work exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery, and also had work in the B.C. Artists annual exhibitions from 1934 to 1948. In 1946 he was living in Burnaby, in 1948 he was living in New Westminster.

He died in Vancouver in 1956 at the age of 69. He had been employed for 20 years in "display advertising" for a newspaper at the time of his death, living in South Burnaby.
