VANCOUVER ART GALLERY

The annual B.C. Artists' Exhibition acquires increasing importance among cultural activities in Vancouver. Since its inception seventeen years ago this yearly display, revealing a wide range of artistic effort, has become a more adequate expression of the vision and spirit of artists in the province.     In recent times there has been an evident desire among many of the exhibitors to strive for something more intense and personal. Exhibitions gain thereby in vitality and indicate that art in British Columbia is neither stagnant nor lacking in solid achievement.     The 17th Annual B.C. Artists' Exhibition is a jury show. This is partly in accordance with a desire expressed by a number of artists, especially those living outside of Vancouver and who favor acceptance or rejection of the work by a competent jury.     Visitors will observe that many of the exhibits may be acquired at moderate prices. In any community it is desirable that works of local artists be purchased, thus encouraging the creative power of the painter and adding significance to the home.              J. DELISLE PARKER.
