Miss Emily Sartain was born in England, and was known for her drawings and watercolours of flowers.

She arrived in Vancouver in 1939, and had a number of solo exhibitions at the Vancouver Art Gallery from 1939 to 1944, typically exhibiting floral watercolours. Her solo show in 1940 was successful, a list of paintings on file at the art gallery Library notes that 10 were sold out of 36 artworks (numbers 1, 6, 10, 13, 19, 22, 25, 30, 33, and 36 for those who are interested).

She exhibited her work in the B.C. Artists annuals in 1939 and 1940.

She was on a list titled "Leading Vancouver Artists," provided to the Labour Arts Guild on April 10, 1946 by the Vancouver Art Gallery to assist in the Guild's call for entries to the second annual B.C. At Work exhibition.

She died in Victoria in 1990. A website was created for her in 2013, refer to emilysartain.ca.
