Isabel Mary Hobbs

Isabel Hobbs was born in Ashill, Norfolk, England. She received her art teachers' certificate from the South Kensington school in London, England. She received an Award of Merit in a national competition in England in 1913. After moving to B.C. she became known as "the Dogwood Lady" or "the Dogwood Painter". She gave private instruction in art.

She exhibited with the Island Arts and Crafts Society from 1919 to 1932.

She had a solo exhibition of her work in Victoria in 1938, and also showed work at the B.C. Provincial Art Exhibition. She also showed her work in the 1945 British Columbia At Work exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

Hobbs was living in Nanaimo at the time of her death at the age of 88.
