PREVIOUS RELEASE UPDATES

RELEASE 1.25c - issued October 1 2008

New since RELEASE 1.24:
222 new files, comprised of 145 new artist biographies; 13 exhibition catalogues transcribed with 1,443 artworks; 40 images added; an additional 31 references and 18 clippings listed (14 transcribed); project manual added, and more than 500 other files updated.

There are now 1,246 artist biographical files. More than 8,500 paintings are listed in exhibition catalogues and vertically in artist biographies. A printout of the entire project (1,667 htm files and 83 jpg images) takes over 2,560 pages.

With the addition of the Vancouver art school list of students (years 1925-30 have been summarized to date), as well as the previous Island Arts and Crafts Society all-time List of Exhibitors (issued in Release 1.24), many more early B.C. artists are referenced for the first time in this project.

ARTISTS:

Note regarding additional artist biographies:
29 of the new biographies were created by transcription of the 1949 Stanley Park in Pictures exhibition catalogue; 13 by transcription of the 1930 Vancouver Exhibition catalogue; and eight by transcription of the 1901 B.C. Letters Number VII. Almost all of the additional new biographies were created by transcription of the 3rd and 15th Annual B.C. Artists exhibitions. New biographies tend to have very little information other than the artist's name and a listing for one or two artworks. Also, at this stage in the AAEV project, a high percentage of important B.C. artists already have biographies, and new biographies tend to be for obscure artists with a limited exhibition record.
