H.D. Simpson exhibited artwork in the B.C. Artists exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery in 1946. The artist was living in Vancouver.

It is likely that this artist is Hugh Dykes Simpson, a retired architect who was born in Scotland April 20 1876, died in Vancouver August 20 1960. The death certificate notes that he retired in 1942 after 40 years in architecture. His son H.H. Simpson witnessed the certificate. The Dictionary of British Architects lists him as living in Hamilton, Strathclyde, Scotland in 1911. The Dictionary of British Artists lists "Simpson, H.D. Exh. 1909. 9 Kemp Street, Hamilton, N.B. / RSW 1" which matches the time and place, and notes one painting exhibited in 1909 with the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Water Colours.
