BRITISH COLUMBIA ARTISTS |
Editor's note: this exhibition of 40 works selected from the 1946 15th Annual BC Artists'
exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery is from a typed list on file at the art gallery's
Library and Archives. A letter on file dated October 7th from B.C. Binning,
acting in his capacity as Director of the Federation of Canadian Artists, advised
A.S. Grigsby at the Gallery that the works were chosen from
the exhibition "to go on tour in the interior under the sponsorship of the
UBC & the Federation." Other than the typed list and the letter from Binning, no other information has been found regarding this traveling exhibition. The FCA's second traveling show went to 11 locations in the province. No dates or locations for this exhibition have been noted. An exhibition catalogue is not known to have been produced for the 40 selected artworks. The catalogue below is simply a modified version of the catalogue for the 15th Annual. The artwork numbers noted on the typed list do not match the numbers in the exhibition catalogue, in fact they go up to 487 compared to the exhibition's total number of 307. It appears the list of selections was taken from the overall list of entries to the 15th Annual, not the catalogue of works accepted by the Jury. The original catalogue numbers are used here.
Variations in the titles of the selections are noted with **, thus: |
