BRITISH COLUMBIA ARTISTS |
NOTES ON REFERENCES AND ARTIST BIOGRAPHIES | |
1. | References are listed alphabetically by abbreviation, then chronologically within the same abbreviation. Abbreviations have been made as easy-to-remember as possible, based typically on the initial letters for the name of the publisher, gallery, or artists group. Naming format is similar to McMann's Dictionary of Canadian Artists, and uses the same abbreviations where applicable such as ABC for Artists of British Columbia, etc. The two-digit number is always year of publication. The abbreviations link to separate files listing information about the reference: publisher, date, ISBN, content, and so on. A list of all artists referenced is compiled for easy review. |
2. | If an artist has a biography file all references are listed there to avoid duplication. |
3. | Biography files are for artists who exhibited work in Vancouver prior to 1950 (but who may have exhibited afterwards as well). |
4. | Artists with reference links on the alphabetical
pages are either: 1.) artists who exhibited prior to 1950 but no biography file has been created, or 2.) artists who began to exhibit their work in B.C. before 1890 or after 1950. |
5. | Places of residence noted in the A-Z index are as given in the reference that precedes the place name. To avoid duplication, the earliest use of any residence location is listed, and only a change of location will be listed subsequently. Locations in British Columbia do not have the province listed. Quebec is listed as either PQ or QC, as given in the applicable reference material. |
