BRITISH COLUMBIA ARTISTS

Barbara West (nee Morley-Horder)

February 8 1900 -

BC College of Arts

Barbara West was born in London, England in 1900. She married R. Rolleston West in London in 1930, and the couple moved to BC shortly afterwards.

She was a student at the short-lived BC College of Arts in Vancouver, attending the stage-craft and theatre-arts classes in 1933-34. The classes produced a modern adaption to Ben Jonson's comedy play Volpone at the College in January 1934, the play was well received by the press.

She exhibited artwork in the 1934, 1936, 1937, 1938, and 1940 B.C. Artists exhibitions at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

Who's Who in Northwest Art notes that West was a painter in water colour and oils; trained at the Vancouver School of Art and Federal Art School in Los Angeles; and was a student of Frederick Varley's. She was living at 3641 Cameron Avenue in Vancouver, B.C. in 1941. See also R. Rolleston West, living at same address.
