Editor: some of the people listed below as "students" were in fact art school staff
and chaperones.
Students of the Vancouver School of Art have returned from
their summer school outing at the Royal Savary Hotel, Savary Island,
where they have spent ten days painting and sketching the glorious scenery.
In addition to their outdoor art studies the students enjoyed tennis and badminton
tournaments, golf matches, a swimming gala, a masquerade ball, and bonfires. They
were also entertained nearly every evening by Mr. Wolfe Schwangart, well-known radio
artist, who played and sang the folk songs of many countries.
An exhibition of sketches was held on the wide verandah of the hotel, when prizes
were awarded for the best pieces of work done. The prizes, donated by
Mr. Mortimer Lamb, were won by Mr. Edward Hughes,
first; Mr. James Dickie, second; and Mr.
Orville Fisher, third.
