Rowena Gross was born in Vancouver. Both of her parents were from New Brunswick. Pauline was her mother's middle name. She was an early graduate from the Vancouver School of Decorative and Applied Arts, receiving her diploma in 1933.

She died in Vancouver in 1986 at the age of 83, her occupation was noted as School Teacher, and she was single.
