Diplomas Awarded to Art Students

Vancouver Province - September 2 1939

     Congratulating Vancouver School of Art for the excellence of its work during the past session, under the tuition of Charles H. Scott and staff, Col. F.T. Fairey, director of the technical education branch of the Department of Education, distributed scholarships and diplomas to successful students Friday afternoon.
     Two school scholarships, open to 1939 graduates, went to Norma Bow and Betty Elliott. The Mrs. B.T. Rogers scholarship of $50, open to third year students, was awarded Arla Saare. The W.G. Murrin award of $50, open to second year students, to Melba Howard. The Mrs. Jonathan Rogers scholarship of $25, open to first year students, went to Peter Aspell, and the Canadian Women's Club scholarship, $25, open to first year students, to Lucille Doane. Other awards:
     Post Diploma in Drawing and Painting - Miss Nancy Goldie.
     Post Diploma in Design - Miss Maxine Bottrill.
     Diploma in Drawing and Painting - Betty Elliott, Mona Kelk, Mrs. D.S. Bell, Beverly Hardy, Barbara Sharp.
     Diploma in Design - Norma Bow, Mollie Carter, Gertrude Weir, Betty Davies, Marian Bolton.
     Merit Certificates - Helen Berry, Viola Klemann, Melba Howard, Alice Lee, Joan Mathews, Marian McCrea, Marjorie Rowan, Eileen Scott, Molly Lamb, Eva Cadwallader.
     The chair at the graduation ceremonies was taken by H.N. MacCorkindale, superintendent of schools.
