Harold Mackintosh McGiverin was born in Ottawa, Ontario, and moved to Victoria c1924. He had exhibited with the Ottawa Art Association, and also at the Montreal Museum of Fine Art in 1924.

McGiverin exhibited work at the Vancouver Art Gallery in the 1933 Vancouver Island Exhibition.

He died in Oak Bay in 1937 at the age of 37, he was married to Agath Birney Farrington at the time. B.C. Vital Statistics does not give the cause of death.
