ART SCHOOL TO STAGE EXHIBIT

Scholarship Winners Are Named - Public Invited Tuesday

CLOSE FIRST YEAR

     Signalizing the close of a most successful year, scholarships and prizes were awarded this afternoon at closing exercises of the Vancouver School of Decorative and Applied Arts. Winners of scholarships for general proficiency were: Vancouver Exhibition Association scholarship, $50, Fred Amess; $25, Miss M.A. Williams. B.C. Institute of Architects, $40, Miss Phillis Kirpatrick (sic); B.C. Society of Fine Arts, $25, Miss Ada Currie; Vancouver Exhibition Association scholarship for modelling, Miss K.A. Harrison; Trades and Labor Council Prize, $10, for proficiency in design, Miss Arlene Kirpatrick (sic); R.J. Cromie prize, $10, for general proficiency, Miss Ellen Moore.
     On Tuesday the school exhibition of work will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

FOUR DIVISIONS
     The school has been open since September and during the past term 160 day pupils have been in attendance. The work has been under the direction of Mr. John Redford (sic), but commencing next September will be taken over by Mr. Charles Scott, who has been instructor in drawing and painting. Modelling instruction is under supervision of Mr. Charles Marega; elementary drawing, Mrs. Frank Hoole; costume design Mrs. T.J. Sharland; design Messrs. Theodore Korner and Jacobus Semeyn.

FUNDAMENTALS STRESSED
     The aim of the school is to provide fundamental training and grounding in essential subjects for those who wish to follow the decorative arts. During the week nine hours are spent in drawing, seven in designing, five in commercial art, and three in clay modelling.
