BRITISH COLUMBIA ARTISTS |
The family emigrated to Canada from England and arrived in Cowichan "in 1911" (likely 1910 based on exhibited artwork), where they built a house called "Cotswald" overlooking the Cowichan Bay Road. She was organist at the St. Andrew's Church at Cowichan Station for many years.
She exhibited artwork with the Island Arts and Crafts Association from 1910 to 1936. She also exhibited under the name Mrs. C. Wallich. Under the name Mary L. Wallick she exhibited artwork at the Vancouver Exhibition in 1926. The watercolours were of Sproat Lake and Maple Bay on Vancouver Island.
An artist noted as Miss Mary Wallich exhibited artwork with the B.C. Society of Fine Arts in the 1927 annual exhibition. This may or may not be the same artist.
In addition to painting she wrote short stories and poems that were published in the local and Victoria papers.
Wallich died at Duncan in 1938 at the age of 73. Her husband survived her.
