Original Limited Edition Block Print issued September 2004

I have always been fascinated by the prickly casings on the chestnuts that
fall with great abandon around this time of year (September). They seem so
defensive and impenetrable, yet shortly after dropping from the tree they
fall away from the chestnut and leave the seed defenseless. They thus seem
so pointless, and yet are so decorative. I picked one up recently, took it
home, and rendered it as it sat on my desk with a shadow thrown by
my desk lamp. This was the most technically demanding and time-consuming of
the five block prints produced so far this year.
