Frank Leonard Brooks was born in Enfield, London, England in 1911, after which his parents emigrated to Toronto. Brooks was primarily an eastern Canadian artist, who had a solo exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery in 1950. A list of works in the exhibition is on file at the Gallery Library.

There are numerous available references to Brooks, including McMann works, Macdonald's Dictionary of Canadian Artists (2 page biography), and other sources, that will not be listed here. He is an important Canadian artist who simply had an exhibition of his work in Vancouver.

Brooks spent the latter years of his life living in Mexico, where he died at San Miguel de Allende in 2011, just after reaching his 100th birthday.
