Grant R. MacQuarrie was born in Vancouver. He was married to Jean Melissa Matheson.

He exhibited work in the B.C. Artists annual exhibition in 1947. The artist was living in Vancouver.

MacQuarrie died in Vancouver in 1980 at the age of 67. His occupation was noted as "Retired Builder."
