James Edward Hervey MacDonald

May 12 1873 - November 26 1932

Royal Canadian Academy of Art (ARCA 1912 RCA 1932)
Group of Seven (Founding Member)

J.E.H. MacDonald was born in Durham, England. After moving to Canada he lived in Toronto, and was primarily an eastern Canadian artist. He was a founding member of the Group of Seven. There is an extensive amount of information available on MacDonald and his work, which will not be recounted here.

His painting in the 1932 All Canadian Exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery was one of the last to be exhibited in his lifetime, the 1933 solo exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery being a retrospective exhibition (presumably touring) after his death in Toronto in 1932.
