Francis Batiste was born on the Inkameep Reserve in Oliver in 1920, and exhibited in Victoria in 1941 with the Island Arts & Crafts Society.

The biography in WWNA41 notes: "Painter; Printmaker (woodcut); Modeling (plaster of Paris) - Born Inkameep Reserve, Dec. 6, 1920. Pupil of Santa Fe Indian Sch., New Mexico. Awards: Silver star, Royal Drawing Society, 1937; 2 bronze stars, Royal Drawing Society, 1936-1938; 6 1st class honors, Royal Drawing Society , 1936-1939. (continues)."
