I went for a walk in Stanley Park and wandered into the rhododendron
garden. In the middle of it was a stand of giant bamboo, perhaps 20 or 30 feet
tall. I took a number of photographs, thinking that there might be a good linocut
image. Cutting the block went quite quickly, and the image is easy to print. The five
main bamboo stalks are hand-embossed into the damp print paper after the impression is taken
out of the press. The edition is printed on Arches Text Wove paper 120 gsm.
All impressions were hand printed by the artist with Caligo Safe Wash Furnace Carbon Black
relief printing ink, using an antique J. Smart copy press. All prints are
titled, editioned, signed and dated by the artist in pencil, and monogrammed in the plate.
