BRITISH COLUMBIA ARTISTS

Vancouver Arts and Letters Club

? - 1928-1941 - ?

The Vancouver Arts and Letters Club is a group for which little information is easily available.

A 1928 advertisement for the Vanderpant Studios in the pamphlet The Call of the Coast was accompanied by a short article on the gallery, which noted that "it is the meeting place for the Arts and Letters Club, the lectures for the B.C. Art League are given in its artistic surroundings, and during the season, numerous musical concerts are arranged."

The group's existence was also noted in exhibition application forms for the first B.C. Artists exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery in 1932.

The entries for Mabel Bain, Lilias Farley, and Bessie Adelaide Fry in Who's Who in Northwest Art (1941) note that they were members of the group. Information is also available stating that Ross Lort was at one time President of the Group. The stature of these professional artists in Vancouver suggests that more research should be done into this group, its members, and activities.
