She was an early graduate from the Vancouver School of Decorative and Applied Arts, receiving her diploma in 1932.
The Spring 1936 edition of The Smock Pocket, the Vancouver School of Art Graduates' Association newsletter, noted that "The wedding of Jean Kirton, '32, to Mr. George Zilliax took place on October 17th, 1935. She is residing at 1045 Haro St."
Kirton died in Victoria in 1998 at the age of 86. Her occupation was noted as "Retired - Homemaker."
