Mabel Dafoe was born in Belleville, Ontario, and came to BC c1888, where she lived in Vancouver on Alberni Street.

She married Charles Wrighton Seal on June 15, 1899. After her husband passed away she remarried to Ronald Harwood in Vancouver on March 6, 1920.

She exhibited her work as Mabel Seal in Vancouver, starting at least as early as 1909 with the B.C. Society of Fine Arts' debut First Annual Exhibition at the Dominion Hall in Vancouver. She was listed as a member of the Society from 1920 to 1922, but did not exhibit.

She exhibited work in the 1932 All Canadian Exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery, as Mrs. R. Gwynne Harwood. Her oil painting was noted as the work of a local artist.

She exhibited work at the Vancouver Art Gallery in the B.C. Artists exhibitions in 1932, 1935, and 1938. She was living in Vancouver.
