The painting titled "Luss Glen, Loch Lomond" is listed in the catalogue as being by Mr. A. Halley, this may be a typographic error.
John Halley posted notices in the Victoria Colonist on November 14 1911 stating that "John Halley, Ganges, Salt Spring Island, artist" was applying through the Land Act to acquire land on Salt Spring Island. B.C. Vital Statistics and the City Directories show that a John Halley was born on Salt Spring Island in 1909. He was too young to be acquiring land in 1911, unless his father James Dunlop Halley was acquiring it in the child's name. James was listed as a farmer on the island, retiring in 1947 after 50 years, and died in 1957. Son John married Dorothy Downes in 1936, his occupation noted as mine surveyor, living in Quesnel.
