Ruth A. Hagelstein was born in Yorkshire, England. She came to Canada c1911, moved to BC four years later, and to Langley c1920.

She married Christian Hagelstein in Murrayville (Langley) on January 1, 1923. Her occupation was noted as "home help" and he was a rancher born in Whatcom County, Washington State.

She exhibited her work in the 1945 B.C. Artists exhibition, and again in 1945 at the British Columbia At Work exhibition, both at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Her address was given as Langley Prairie, a location that has since been merged into Maple Ridge.

Hagelstein died in Langley in 1960 at the age of 56, survived by her husband.
