Annie Dalton was born in Birkby, England, (nee Annie Charlotte Armitage) and came to British Columbia in 1904 with her husband Will Dalton. Annie was noted as being deaf from an illness at the age of seven. She was a well-known poet and author in Canada, and had numerous books published of her work.

In 1906, she wrote A Souvenir of Vancouver, a small hardcover volume that was illustrated by John Kyle, an important early BC artist and educator. An early version of the Vancouver City crest is shown on the cover. John Kyle also illustrated a poem by Dalton titled "Love Comes Riding Along the Way" in Westward Ho! magazine.

Dalton published Marriage of Music in 1910, and The Silent Zone in 1926, a small volume of prose and poetry printed in Vancouver by Cowan & Brookhouse. This volume was illustrated by Joan Goodall, and issued in a limited edition of 250 copies "numbered and autographed ..." There is a small text quotation by Joan Goodall included.

Other works by Dalton were published in Eastern Canada. In 1924, Flame and Adventure, 73 pages, was published by MacMillan Company in a hardcover edition. The book was illustrated by early BC artist Charles Ferguson. In 1925 Songs and Carols was published.

Ryerson published The Amber Riders & Other Poems in an edition of 250, 1929; The Neighing North in an edition of 250, 1931, illustrated by well-known Canadian artist James Williamson Galloway (Jock) Macdonald; and Lilies & Leopards in an edition of 500, 1935.

Annie died in Vancouver in 1938 at the age of 72.
