Percy Compton

Percy Compton was born in Ripon, Yorkshire, England. Both of his parents were from England. He came to Canada c1919, and moved to Burnaby c1930.

Compton exhibited work at the Vancouver Art Gallery in the 1941 and 1943 B.C. Artists exhibitions. The artist was noted in the catalogues as living in New Westminster, but he actually lived in Burnaby with his wife Constance Lena Hood.

City directories list Compton as a shoe repairman, 1518 Royal Oak Avenue, Burnaby in 1940. In 1943 he is listed as a Commissionaire for CC of C, and in 1947 as a shoemaker at Oakalla Prison. He died at work in 1948 at the age of 47. The death certificate noted that he had been a shoe repairman for thirty years.
