H. Crawford Coates, Jr.
May 24 1866 - October 10 1944
Crawford Coates was born in Cape Town, South Africa. He studied architecture
at the University of Pennsylvania, and then worked as an architect in Philadelphia
until 1906. After living in various places in the States he arrived in B.C. in 1911.
He exhibited artwork in the Second Exhibition of the
Island Arts & Crafts Society in 1911.
The Victoria City Directory listed him as an Architect.
In 1918 Coates left Victoria and moved to California, where he worked in Los
Angeles until his death.
