Anthony George Bulhak

March 8 1898 - April 22 1977

U.B.C. Art and Cultural centre ("The Gables")


A. George Bulhak was born in Poland, the son of "noted Polish patriot" Thomas Bulhak, who led two revolts against Russian rule in the 1800s and "served 35 years in the salt mines of Siberia."

Bulhak and his wife fled Poland when the Germans invaded on Sept. 1 1939. At the time he was the head of the Polish Board of Trade. They arrived in Vancouver on Christmas Eve, 1940.

He immediately enrolled in U.B.C., and graduated in 1947 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture.

He exhibited artwork at the U.B.C. Art and Cultural centre in 1946. He was chairman of the executive committee of the centre at the time.

He died in Vancouver in 1977 at the age of 79. His occupation was noted as "Retired - Real Estate." He was survived by his wife.
