Herman Martin Alpen

Herman Alpen was born in San Francisco, and came to Vancouver where he worked as a "lithographic artist." On March 6 1901 he married Alice Maude Creech of Hamilton ON in Vancouver.

Alpen was on the Executive of the Arts & Crafts Society in 1900. He exhibited his work in the group's First Annual Exhibition, and also put on a display of the history of lithography.

In 1912 the City Directory listed him as an artist, employed by the BC Painting & Engineering Company, living at 1550 West 7th Avenue.

He died in Vancouver in 1943 at the age of 70, according to B.C. Vital Statistics.
