Hal Woods was born in Carman, Manitoba, and presumably came to British Columbia with his family in 1920. His father Robert Woods worked in Vancouver for the C.P.R. as a blacksmith in 1920, and in 1929 was listed as a laborer for the railway.

Hal was listed in the City Directories beginning in 1920, living with his father at 1964 East 12th Avenue. In 1924 and 1925 he was living at 1019 Davie Street. He did pen & ink drawings for School Days magazine in Vancouver in the 1920s. He put a very small text advertisment in the October 1924 issue:
Tuition in Illustrating or Cartooning - Afternoon or Evening.
HAROLD H. WOODS, 1019 Davie St.

Woods later lived at 414 East 25th Avenue from 1927 to 1929, then moved to 4231 Perry Street where he lived until 1933. His occupation was listed as either "artist" or "commercial artist." After that he is not listed in the Directories.

His brother Thomas Honeywell Woods (1909 - 1983) was also born in Carman, and was listed in Vancouver as a salesman.

According to an online ancestry site Harold died in 1934.
