The School of Decorative and Applied Art, decided upon early last June, has far
surpassed the expectations of its most ardent advocates. We estimated, in making
plans for it, that we would have at least 20 day students and 100 students in
night classes. Instead of that, we have had, during the past term, 117 day students
and 151 students in night classes. These large numbers are a challenge to the
Vancouver School Board. This school should not be allowed
to mark time till a technical school on a huge scale is provided. Accommodation should
be provided for it at an early date that will permit of its growth, and an
adequate staff should be provided. This will call for a considerable expenditure,
possibly a year from now.
