Annual Carnival at Savary Island Splendid SuccessArrangements for the serving of tea were in the hands of Mrs. Harry Keefer and Mrs. McKillop, who were ably assisted by Mrs. Ronald Burns, Mrs. W.J. Lea, Miss Flo Conington, Miss Frankie Keefer, Miss Jane Campbell, Miss Mary Lamont, and Miss Margaret Burns. The dispensing of edibles from the home-cooking stall was undertaken by Mrs. Peter Lamont and Mrs. Jack Hilliam. Mrs. F. McFarland and Miss L. Revell presided over the candy stall and had no trouble in finding a ready sale for the confections they had provided. Mr. Jim Spilsbury (q.v.) and Mr. Lex McKillop superintended the wheel of fortune, while Mr. George McFarland and Mr. Kemper Broadus controlled the operations of the cocoanut stall. Miss Slinger proved an adept at the reading of present, fast and future, and Miss Winifred Shearman and Miss Maud Shearman (sic) suitably rewarded the efforts of those who tried their luck at fishing. The pavilion during the afternoon was crowded to capacity. MASQUERADE DANCE In the evening a masquerade dance was held. The scene was very picturesque, as the pavilion had been decorated with salal, ferns and flowers, and a soft glow was diffused by numbers of brightly-colored Chinese lanterns. The costumes of the revellers varied from the highly artistic to the outrageously grotesque. In the midst of the dancing a dreadful apparition made its appearance, after warning had been issued by Mr. Keefer. It consisted of a horse such as never was on sea or land and a rider who, in his glittering armor, would certainly have outdone the historic Don Quixote. Eventually the apparition fell to pieces and the result was more grotesque than ever, for the animal appeared to have been reincarnated in the form of two separate individuals - one of a typically Hebraic cast of countenance and the other of the hobo species.
