Irma Matthew was an early graduate from the Vancouver School of Decorative and Applied Arts, receiving her diploma in 1936, and winning a School Scholarship of $50.00. She received a Post Graduate Endorsement in Design and Decorative Arts in 1937.

The 1936 grads had their portraits drawn in pencil by E.J. Hughes. The portraits were published in the 1936 Graduation issue of Behind the Palette.
