William Hopping

April 11 1886 - July 14 1981

Vancouver Sketch Club
English Bay Sketch Club

William Hopping was born in Reading, Berkshire, England is 1886. After he arrived in Canada he lived in Vancouver, and was employed as a painter. The first listing for Hopping in the City Directories appears to be in 1929, when he was listed as a "pntr" (painter) living at 538 East 41st Avenue. In 1930 he was living at 728 East 39th Avenue. The 1935 Directory lists Hopping at 3604 Carolina, married to "Rachel P.", as well as Ada E. Hopping (their daughter) living at the same address.

His grandson stated that Hopping had been an early member of the Vancouver Sketch Club and the English Bay Sketch Club, although at this point no reference has been found for him exhibiting work with those groups.

His death certificate noted that he had been living at 41 East 23rd Avenue, Vancouver, and was widowed from Rachael Robinson.
