Oscar Erickson was raised in Toronto, Ontario by his mother, who was from Sweden. He
enlisted in the Canadian Army in World War One, and lost both of his legs in France
at the Battle of Amiens. He engaged to marry Myrtle Chatterson in 1917, and the
couple were married in Winnipeg, Manitoba on June 25, 1919, after his return to Canada.
He received the Military Cross from King George V, and was promoted to Major.
He was the father of Arthur Erickson, the famous
Canadian Architect, in 1924.
Erickson exhibited artwork in the 1944 B.C. Artists exhibition at the
Vancouver Art Gallery. The artist was living in Vancouver.
He received an OBE (Order of the British Empire) in 1946.
