These photographs were taken by Stuart Thomson in 1933.
The unusual large artwork above is by Gordon Kit Thorne, it was installed
in the Abbotsford Hotel, 921 West Pender Street, Vancouver. The hotel is still in existence,
operating as Day's Inn, although the tap room has been completely renovated. An actual deer's
head is attached to the painting, giving the artwork a bizarre realism. The photograph below shows a larger view of the room, titles for the two murals on the left are visible. The mural on the far right, partly seen, may also have a deer's head mounted on it. City of Vancouver Archives reference CVA-99-4238. |
