This photograph was taken September 21, 2022, the last day of summer. The relief panel is above the main entrance to the Vancouver Technical School at 2600 East Broadway, Vancouver. The artwork was commissioned in 1928 from Vancouver sculptor Charles Marega by the architects Townley & Matheson. The panel depicts "two allegorical scenes of students seeking education." Up until 1940 the school was for boys only. A photograph of the panel is featured on the front cover of a 1982 Vancouver School Board report titled "Heritage Inventory of Vancouver Schools" by Diana Bodnar. In that photograph the relief panel is not painted. |
