This photograph was one of a number of pictures taken on West 6th Avenue east of Arbutus, about 1905. The photographs were presumably taken to mark the purchase of building lots by the Shearman and Sherman families. In this photograph, Maud Sherman's grandmother is surrounded by six of her grand-children, Maud on the right. Other photos known to have been taken that day include pictures of Maud's mother with Maud and her brother Camdon, and another photograph of her father R.S. Sherman holding an axe, ready to start work on their new house. Two copies of this group photograph have been located, this scan is courtesy of Mrs. Jean Hardwick, from the memoir of Frank Hardwick "Looking Backwards." For those with a keen eye, grannie is smoking a cigarette. |
