Art Emporium framing label

This is a digital photograph of an early Art Emporium framing label, courtesy of Bob MacIntyre at the Burnaby Art Gallery. The label was glued to the wood backing of a 1907 photograph by Frank Gowan (q.v.)(1878 - 1946), and then covered and sealed with brown paper until 2018. J.Y. Miller (q.v.) was listed in the City Directory as Proprietor of the Art Emporium in 1916 and 1917. He later had his own gallery. Refer to art and framing stores of Vancouver for more information on these galleries. Gowan arrived in Vancouver in 1913 from Manitoba, so the photo was presumably taken in 1907 (the year of his marriage) and framed or re-framed in Vancouver in 1916 or 1917.
