Vancouver Art Association

Victoria Weekly Colonist, Vol. XXXII No. 12

February 28 1890

The Vancouver Art Association, established just one year, is, we are pleased to say, in a flourishing condition, and those ladies and gentlemen who inaugurated this movement deserve every praise for the good work they have undertaken - a work which commands the sympathies of all who love art, and one that call for voluntary help in every town and village of the country, as it is of the highest importance from a material and an educational, as well as from an aesthetic point of view. Before long, as the classes grow and the exhibitions of work become familiar, the organization, small as yet, will make itself felt in a very remarkable manner. The first annual exhibition will be held in September, and will be open to competitors. Prizes have been promised by a number of the leading citizens, and the association offers a medal to be competed for by the students. The directors ask the assistance of the public generally, so as to make this institution a credit to the city. - Vancouver Daily World.
