The endeavor in six of these sketches was to get the spirit of a part of the
country in as simple, concentrated and complete a way as possible and to do this
through direct, first hand experience, as a Canadian sees and feels his own land.
A people makes a home for its physical well being by pioneering and cultivating the land.
It achieves a home for its soul in its own country through the creative works of its
own artists in all the arts.
