Mr. J. Carpenter
dates
J. Carpenter was apparently from England, arriving in BC by 1890 
and living in Victoria in 1894. He was one of the earliest artists to 
exhibit in Vancouver, and in 1890 had a number of paintings in the 
First Annual Exhibition of the 
Vancouver Art Association.
An artist named J. Lant Carpenter is listed in the Dictionary of 
British Artists 1880 - 1940, exhibiting as a landscape painter 
in England from 1880 - 1901. This may be the same artist.
