Unknown man holding antique rifle

This photo was taken by Jack Lindsay, apparently between 1940 and 1948. The image is from the City of Vancouver Archives, but the man is not identified. It would seem relatively easy to find out who he was. He appears to be Indigenous, and there are at least 7 original portraits of Indigenous people on the wall. The rolled map just behind him appears to show the north island of the Queen Charlottes (now Haida Gwaii) with Dixon Entrance and the southern islands of Alaska at the top. Unfortunately none of the book titles are legible. There is an oriental neck rest on the desk behind him. The muzzle of the gun is pointing at an unusual design, perhaps also Indigenous.
