Charles Marega proposed sculpture garden

This photograph is dated 1929, and shows a proposal by Marega for a sculpture garden in Stanley Park. Interestingly, this photograph was published on August 9, 1926 in The Evening Times-Star, Saint John, New Brunswick. It accompanied an article titled "For Canada's Diamond Jubilee" which stated that it was designed in the shape of an "E" and 115 feet long and 105 feet wide. There was a 36-foot high central monument, flanked by statues of John A. MacDonald and Wilfred Laurier. The sculpture was estimated to cost $94,000, but was never built.
