This is an interesting label, sent to me by Bob MacIntyre at the Burnaby Art Gallery. A number of J.Y. Miller framing labels were cut into pieces and used to attach some Samuel Maclure paintings to the back of mattes. Bob sent me a photo of the best example of this method of assembly, and I digitally cut and pasted the labels back together as best I could. The label is not complete, but the address per BC directories is 1175 14th Avenue East, Vancouver. Below the name it presumably states "picture framer" and "wholesale and retail" below that. The text at the bottom is not legible in this image, but says "To duplicate moulding give number..." I have never seen one of these labels on an artwork, and using them to frame a number of original Maclure paintings connects Miller directly to one of BC's earliest important artists and architects.
