Mosaic - CIBC Bank, Vancouver
B.C. Binning

This mosaic was commissioned by the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in 1957 for their new branch at the corner of Granville and Dunsmuir in downtown Vancouver. It was unveiled in 1958. It depicts the basic resources and industries of British Columbia. Binning traveled to Venice to select Italian marble and glass tesserae for the mosaic, working closely with the Murano glass factory to choose the colours. The images shown here are some of the details of the huge mural. The complete mural is illustrated in reference works on Binning, including pages 144-145 in B.C. Binning, 2006, Douglas & McIntyre.
